Being A Trucker On Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving on a couple days away, most people will be preparing their homes for many visitors, prepping sides dishes and talking more or less about football or Black Friday. However, there are many people who will not be enjoying all the luxuries of Thanksgiving, like spending time with family and a warm home-cooked meal. Unfortunately, the work of a trucker does not necessarily just stop when a holiday occurs. Many truckers spend Thanksgiving on the road, far from family and friends. If you are a trucker who will be behind the wheel rather than behind the dining table this Thanksgiving, take the following suggestions in order to make working on the holiday just a tad better.

1. VISIT A TRUCK STOP
If you are currently on the road, figure out what truck stop you will be nearing on Thanksgiving day. Most truck stops will serve turkey dinners in order show appreciation for their truckers as well as to encourage a sense of community between you and your fellow truck drivers. Take a few hours for a good meal with the people who understand what it’s like to be away from their families just as much as you do.

2. GO TO A RESTAURANT OR DINER
If you’re one who doesn’t necessarily like to plan, there is always the option of stopping into a restaurant whenever you find yourself craving savory gravy and turkey. Although some places will be closed because of the holiday, there will a be fair share of restaurants for you to choose from.

3. SPEND THE NIGHT AT A HOTEL
Often big chain hotels will have a Turkey Day Buffet. If you want a break from your truck and a delicious meal, get a room for the night and experience Thanksgiving the luxury way.

Happy Thanksgiving from those of us at Transpro Burgener. Thank you for your dedication, we are very thankful for all of you.
